How to make a Snowman

In this tutorial we continue working with the Selection tool and we'll also be working with the Airbrush and Paintbrush

Open a new canvas 500x500

Find your Selection Tool and choose a circle

draw a biggish circle and floodfill with white

Select None

Move the circle to the lower part of your canvas to the middle and add drop shadow with the following settings

I changed the colour to a grey colour. You can ofcourse use another colour, but I feel blue/grey tones work better with snow

Add the drop shadow again, but change Vertical and Horizontal to 1

Duplicate this layer and resize by 60% - bicubic resample and Resize all layers unchecked. Move this circle up as this is the head of the snowman

Now we need to make the eyes.

Add a new layers and  choose your paint brush with these settings

Set the foreground colour to black or a dark grey colour and left click once to add your eye and left click again to make the second eye

Add a new layer and choose a nice orange colour as your foreground colour as we will need to draw the nose.

Use your paintbrush and change the size to 2 and draw a carrot nose for your snowman. Remember real carrots are not straight, so freehand will be just fine.

flood fill with the same colour inside your "nose"

add a new layer and choose your Airbrush tool with these settings

Just paint an outline as in image above. This is just the snowmans arms and feet.

Save image as a psp image and leave open on your psp.

Now lets make a hat for our snowman

Open a new canvas 300 x 300

Choose your Selection tool and choose an ellipse and draw an ellipse like this

Flood fill with black

add a new layer and choose rectangle and draw a rectangle like this

add a new layer and choose your selection tool - rectangle again

draw a rectangle like this

and flood fill with a colour of your choice

go to Layers - Merge - Merge visible

and go to Edit - Copy

Open your image with the snowman and go to Edit - Paste as a new layer

resize to smaller (all layers unchecked) and place it on the head of the snowman

Layers - Merge - Merge Visible

We can now add other attributes

eg arms...

Add a new layer

Choose your paint brush - size 10 and a dark brown color

you can draw arms to your snowman

I added woodgrain texture to mine and changed the size to 5 for the "fingers"

I made a scarf for mine with the paint brush size 5

flood fill and add stripes with the airbrush opacity 100, density 50 and size 10

Merge all layers and copy to animation shop and save as gif file

This might not be the prettiest snowman ever made, but it is very satisfactory knowing it's ALL of your creation
