Glittering
Stars Tutorial
this is what
we will be making

The tag is
created using art of and copyright to the
great artist

his art at his website

For this
tutorial you don't need anything else but
what Paint Shop Pro comes with plus
Animation shop
and this
tutorial is written for PSP versions 8 and 9
We will learn
how to make glittering text and frames.
Let's get
started
Open a new
canvas 500x500
raster
background and transparent canvas
Find your
preset tools on the left and draw the shape
you wish. I am using a star here, but it can
be a heart or anything else you like. I have
used a gold fill gradient. You can ofcourse
use any colour or gradient you wish

Anti alias
checked, Meter Limit 15 and Width 7
Right click
on the layer highlighted on the layer
palette on the right and convert to raster
layer and rename this layer to STAR.
Right click
again and duplicate this layer twice. Right
click on raster layer 1 and delete. We don't
need this layer right now.
You should
now have 3 layers, STAR and 2 copies.
Hide the two copies by clicking on the eye
next to the layer on the layer palette.
Highlight the bottom one and go to Adjust ->
Add/Remove Noise -> Add Noise. Choose
Gaussian - 70% and Monochrome checked. Click
OK. Now hide the bottom layer (by clicking
on the eye) and unhide the middle layer (by
clicking on the eye again) and go to Adjust
-> Add/Remove Noise -> Add Noise. This time
choose Uniform. Again 70% and monochrome
checked. Now hide this layer and unhide the
top layer and go to Adjust->Add/Remove Noise
-> Add Noise and choose Random with the same
settings.
Now with the
layer you have highlighted click inside the
star and flood fill with the colour of
your choice.

Hide - the
top layer and unhide middle layer. Click
inside the middle layer and flood fill and
do the same for the bottom layer.
Your star is
now ready.
Now you can
NOT move any of the star layers around or
you will get an animation that hops. If the
rest of the things don't fit on the canvas,
go to Image -> resize canvas. Later on we
can crop off any unwanted space.
If you want
to add a tube - open it in you psp. Right
click on the blue on top of the image ->
copy. Highlight the image with the star -
right click on the blue - paste as a new
layer. Move it to position and highlight
this layer on the right on the layer palette
and rename to TUBE. Duplicate this layer
twice, so you have 3 of these layers as
well.

If you are
using an image of an artist that requires
copyright credit, add a new raster layer and
type in your copyright information. Move it
to place (without moving the other 6 layers
- if you move them by mistake -> Edit ->
Undo Move).
Right click
on the layer - rename to CopyR -> Duplicate
twice.
You should
now have total of 9 layers. (if you added
the tube and copyright info - basics is you
should have a layer and 2 copies -> 3 layers
of each thing you add).
Now it is
time to add your name.
Add a new
raster layer. Click on the text tool on the
toolbar on the left. Choose your font and
colour
Type in your
name and go to -> Selections -> Select None.
Now right
click on the layer on the layer palette.
Rename to NAME and right click again and
duplicate twice.
Hide the two
copies by clicking on the eye next to the
layer on the layer palette. Highlight the
bottom one and go to Adjust -> Add/Remove
Noise -> Add Noise. Choose Gaussian - 70%
and Monochrome checked. Click OK. Now hide
the bottom layer (by clicking on the eye)
and unhide the middle layer (by clicking on
the eye again) and go to Adjust ->
Add/Remove Noise -> Add Noise. This time
choose Uniform. Again 70% and monochrome
checked. Now hide this layer and unhide the
top layer and go to Adjust->Add/Remove Noise
-> Add Noise and choose Random with the same
settings.
You should
now have a total of 12 layers.
Now go and
hide ALL the layers. Unhide the bottom one
and every third layer. Highlight the bottom
one as on image below and go to Layers ->
Merge -> Merge Visible. (Sometimes when I
work with these kind of images I can have
more than 20 layers going. So when I do
start merging I hide all first, so I know I
get each part of the image showing on every
merge).

Now hide this
merged layer and unhide the first copy layer
of each of your layers. (Every other).

Go to layers
-> Merge -> Merge visible and don't forget
to highlight one of the "visible" layers
before trying to merge.
Now hide this
merged layer. (You should now have 2 merged
layers and 4 with the different names).
Unhide the remaining layers (except the two
merged ones ... lol) and highlight one of
them -> Layers -> Merge -> Merge Visible.
Now you
should have 3 merged layers . Unhide all of
them (all three visible - no red x's on the
eyes) and save as a psp image (and don't
forget to check where you save it).
Now go to ->
File -> Jasc Software Products -> Launch
Animation Shop
Go to
Animation Shop and do the following
Go to File ->
Animation Wizard
or
Click on the
button as shown by the arrow on the image
below

You get up
this image

You can change the width
and height to 500 (I don't really care about
that as I crop later).
Click Next
Choose Default Canvas
Colour and Click Next
Choose
Centered in the Frame and With the Canvas
Colour and Click Next

Choose ->
Yes, repeat indefinitely and on How do you
want each frame to be displayed -> Choose 10
-> Next
Now you have
to click on the button -> Add Image. Find
the folder where you saved you psp image ->
double click on the image, so that it is
highlighted in the window and click Next ->
last frame -> click Finish.
You now have
this

As you can
see the image is very big. Well we don't
want it quite that big so now go to Edit ->
Select All. Then go to -> Animation ->
Resize Animation and choose percentage of
Original 75. Repeat again Edit -> Select All
-> Animation -> Resize to 75%.

If you have a
lot of empty canvas around, go to Edit ->
Select All -> choose the crop tool and crop
around the first frame (select all so it
crops all the frames the same).
You can now
check how your animation works by pushing
the button as in the image below. (just push
it again when you want it to stop).

Go to file ->
Save As -> Choose the folder where you want
to save it and type in the tag name and you
are done.
This is just
a way to show how to add noise. You can also
add other things such as stars and things,
just remember in the psp you must have the
same amount of duplicates of each layer that
you add to your image. And also remember -
once you have duplicated your layer you can
NOT move them around or your animation will
hop.
