Good Morning Frames

This is what we will be creating

Tag is created from the beautiful art of and copyright to Greg Horn

This tutorial is written for version 8 & 9 and you don't need any plug in filters for this one.

The font I used is called Jim Thorpe and you can find at www.dafont.com or at www.subflux.com

Let's get started

Find your tube and open it up in paint shop

Open a new canvas 600X600 - transparent background

Choose your background colour. I have used a91e20 here for my tag.

Choose your preset tools - rectangle and hide your foreground colour and have only the background colour visible.

I chose the square preset tool, so I get a perfect square. Move it to the middle of the canvas and on the layer palette on the right -> right click on the highlighted vector layer and choose "convert to raster layer".

Now go to Selections -> Select All -> Selections -> Float -> Selections -> Defloat. You will have marching ants around your square. Now go to your tube and right click on the blue bar on top of the tube and choose copy. Go back to your image and right click on the blue bar and choose paste into selection. Keep those ants marching and go to Effects -> Texture and choose the Old Paper with these settings

Go to Selections -> Select none.

Now we will make the small rectangles around

Add a new Raster Layer and find the preset tool on the left and this time we choose the rectangle.

I have the red as a foreground colour and I chose white as my background colour and width 3.

Draw a long and thin rectangle

right click on your layer palette on top of the vector layer and convert to raster layer and go to Effects -> Texture and Add the Old Paper texture with the same settings as before.

Now duplicate this layer 3 times. With your mover tool take the top one and move it to position on the opposite side of the image on the left.

Choose the second copy of this layer and this time go to Image -> Rotate -> Free Rotate 90 degrees to the left. With your mover tool move it to position on top of the image. Now choose the 1st copy layer and go to Image -> Rotate -> Free Rotate 90 degrees to the left and move it to position below the image.

Go to Layers - Merge - Merge Visible

Add a new raster layer

With your preset tool rectangle or square draw a smaller rectangle with the same background colour as on the middle image. Right click

right click on the highlighted vector layer and choose "convert to raster layer".

Now go to Selections -> Select All -> Selections -> Float -> Selections -> Defloat. You will have marching ants around your square. Go to your tube and with the selection tool set to rectangle draw a rectangle around a part of the image so you have marching ants around

right click on the blue top bar and choose copy

Go back to your image and right click on the blue bar and choose paste into selection. Keep those ants marching and go to Effects -> Texture and choose the Old Paper with the same settings as before.

Go to Image - Rotate - Free rotate - 15 degrees to the left. Move your little square into position in the upper left corner of your image.

Add a new raster layer

and again with the preset rectangle tool draw a second little square. Convert to raster layer and o to Selections -> Select All -> Selections -> Float -> Selections -> Defloat

Now go to your tube and go to Edit - Undo selection and choose your selection tool and draw a rectangle around a different part of your tube - right click on blue top bar and copy into selection

Go to Selections - Select none and then go to Image - Rotate - Free rotate - 10degrees to the left

Now repeat one third time. New raster layer - draw a rectangle - convert to raster layer - selections - float - defloat - with the selection tool select a part of your tube - copy - paste into selection - selections - select none. Image - rotate - free rotate and this time rotate 15 degrees to the right and move into position on the upper right corner.

You can also add the old paper texture on the small squares if you choose. I think it gives a nice effect.

Merge Visible

New raster layer and here we will add our text.

I used the Jim Thorpe font. You can of course choose any font you like

I choose the same red for the background colour and black for the outline, size 48 with stroke fill 3 floating and with anti alias checked. (on psp 9 you find anti alias further to the right - anti alias - sharp).

Add Inner bevel with these settings

Go to Effects - Texture - Old Paper with the same settings as before and Selections - select none

Choose your deformation tool and on the far left on the middle dot pull in your text to the right. do the same from the right side until your text is the size you like

Add a new raster layer and add your name below the image with the same settings as before.

Again if the name is too long - use the deformation tool to shorten it a bit

Finally add a new raster layer and add artist copyright info if applicable.

Layers - Merge - Merge visible

Launch Animation Shop and copy and paste your image to Animation Shop

Resize (bicubic resample checked). I resized mine first to 75% and then to 85% of the original size and save your image from animation as a gif. file to keep the transparent background
